New Zealand offers World Class Turkey Hunting in a pristine environment at exceptionally reasonable rates. The Merriam Species is predominant and an unusual species "Gallo Pavo" (a bronze bird) is normally found during your hunt. Your experienced guides are safe and friendly, as they help you develop result-oriented stalking and calling strategies. Because of the abundance of turkeys, there is no season and a self-imposed 3 bird per day limit. The best New Zealand "Spring Time, Turkey Hunting" is July - December. |
THE
WILY BIRD
Some facts that turkey hunters know by in field experience but have you related to your friends and spouse just how difficult it is to hunt this wily bird!!
Height: 2-4 feet (at the eye)
Weight: 18-35 pounds
Eyesight: It can see the blink of an eye at 100 feet
Hearing: It can hear a cough more than a mile away
On the ground: It can dash through the woods at 25 mph
In the air: It can lift off vertically like a helicopter and fly away at 50 mph
If this doesn't impress your listener - Benjamin Franklin was so impressed with the turkey that he proposed it for the national bird but it lost out to the American Bald Eagle. Perhaps that was all for the best, for it would hardly seem right or appetizing to feast on roast bald eagle with giblet gravy on Thanksgiving Day.
